As all true Spurs fans will testify, Robbie Keane is the second favourite player at the club, coming just behind Ledley King. He has always been there when we most needed him. Last season he scored his 100th goal for Tottenham.
Signed from then Premiership outfit Leeds United in 2002, Keane quickly gaining a reputation as a deadly striker. He has played for a number of clubs, including Inter Milan, Wolves and Coventry City. He broke into the Ireland set-up at just 18.
With speculation rife about the future of Dimitar Berbatov and Darren Bent, Keane is one player guaranteed to stay at White Hart Lane despite reported interest from Anfield. I am sure he will refuse any proposed move to Liverpool. I don't know just how dumb Liverpool are, making Keane a target when they already have plenty of cover for the striker position, but I am sure Juande Ramos has been notified by Gus Poyet as to the player's importance to the club and fans.
I would question Tottenham's commitment to success if a bid was accepted, as it would not be a huge money transfer and Keane is certainly not deadwood at the club. Where other people in the squad got demoralised and dropped form (Bent, Ghaly, Berba for the first part of the season) Keane excelled in playing a good game of football and not letting the club's underperformance get to him. He is, I have no doubt, a favourite amongst most fans, and whereas the club has seen many strikers come and go, (Mido, Kanoute) Keane, I feel, will see out his career at Spurs.

Dream on? The fact the player wants to leave is the proof of the pudding. Dream on if you think its a good idea to keep him against his will
by Ivor Kemp on July 01, 2008
Good article apart from the key point that Keane himself wants to leave. His boyhood team is Liverpool and he wants a chance to play some Champions League football. It puts a massively different complexion on your argument. When a player wants to leave he will leave! Sad but true.

Unlucky Spurs - he is on his way to LFC. Looks like its Crouch & Bent up front for you this coming season.
by Gerry G on July 01, 2008
Liverpool are a huge club.Spurs are not and will never consistently challenge for the top honours.Fact. Whatever you say about loyalty etc means nothing in comparison to this fact.Accept it and move on.
by Alex White on July 01, 2008
Until such time that Spurs confirm he's in talks with the scousers or Keane confirms that he wants to leave, this is all pie in the sky!

Just a couple of comments. Firstly Liverpool do not have plenty of cover for the striker position. They have Torres and Kuyt. Crouch is obviously on his way out and Voronin just does not cut it. The young talented Nemeth is likely to go out on loan. Secondly some reports say that he is keen (excuse the pun) to go to Liverpool. I don't know how true these reports are but he is the kind of player Liverpool need and would be wonderful up with Torres

Keane has not been quoted anywhere official as saying he wants to leave at all...it's all rumours. So your pudding seems to be full of hot air!! ...i think for now, it's best if you do dream on!!
by KutocerSPur on July 01, 2008
His boyhood team is Celtic not liverpool do u believe everything you read in the Sun and NOTW, If i'm wrong i will eat my own hat but he has stated just before end of season that he wants to finish his football with Spurs and that his phone would be turned of over the summer and was looking foward to next season with spurs

"Liverpool are a huge club.Spurs are not and will never consistently challenge for the top honours.Fact. Whatever you say about loyalty etc means nothing in comparison to this fact.Accept it and move on."- dont think he'd be saying that if it was the other way around

Gerry G, Liverpool are a big club not Huge, spurs are a sleeping giant, and when was the last time you challenged for the league, living in the 80's perhaps. When Keane says he wants to go then i will believe it, and you can stick Crouch up your scouse arses.

I thought Liverpool fans didn't read The Sun let alone believe the lies they print? Has Keane really handed in a transfer request or is he having a good time on his honeymoon?

Keane has had his best times in WHL, and has sais so in many occasion. I just wonder is this such a media hype... because I really don't understand Keano if he even thought about it! CL football is can not be a factor because with additions to the squad Spurs are pushing in the top four next season. Com'on Keano!

Anyone else find it strange that there is not ONE single quote from player of club on Keane supposedly wanting to leave? Another fabricated story from The Daily Mail.
by Carlos TheJackal on July 01, 2008
LFC Fan, but also like and respectful to Spurs. I'd want to keep him if I were you, but if it is the case that we're his boyhood team, and he gets offered the no. 7 shirt, it may be the chance of a lifetime for him (+ champs league too). Certainly I'd have never envisioned him leaving, but if he does want to come, the best forward we could possible sign. (I know we still need a winger!). With repect, it's not as though Spurs don't shoot themselves in the foot nearly every year by selling their best players. If Keane doesn't go, Dimitar probably will... and you lost Carrick - who is a very good player, and Sol before that... so it wouldn't be a new occurance. P.S. Crouchy is no Keane that is for sure, but he is a very talented player, and most of us would prefer he remained at Anfield, but you don't always get what you want. Good luck... it'll be interesting viewing.

I hope this is not true because if Robbie wants to leave then it would be a big blow to our hopes of challenging the top 4. The rumour mill is incredible and to be honest I am supervised Robbie has not been the subject of speculation before as he has been so consistent over the last few seasons. If he must go then we should get a hat full of money for him but the message it sends out could hurt our chances of signing a good replacement. I feel the premier league needs a team or teams to be challenging the cartel that the top 4 have become before it becomes like Formula 1 a few years ago, a procession with the smaller teams unable to match the cash and pulling power of the few. remember how boring that got? Even if you supported the winner every week!!!

by lfc vince on July 01, 2008
know one knows it is in the mail and the telegraph and Keane is on holiday with Jamie redknapp who played for both teams but loves liverpool all I would say is spurs and Keane could put this to bed by saying its not true
by jonathan knowles on July 01, 2008
One thing is for sure when I read all this-Liverpool will only remain in the hunt for premier league honours when they steal players like Keane. Spurs,(who`s determination Liverpool have underestimatd) has a fresh contract with Keane and will not let him go-even if he were interested. The same goes for Berbatov-who is looking more and more like a Spurs player next year. I am amazed at the arrogance of Liverpool supporters and wish I could feel thier dissappointment when this doesn`t happen.
