With the European Championships finished for another four years, every football fan has eyes on the new Premier League season. But before this happens in August, it's time for the clubs to sell and buy their players in the summer transfer window. The Premier League's richest clubs will be waving their cheque books in a frenzy of activity. One of those clubs will surely be Rafa Benitez's Liverpool.

The Anfield giants have had great success in the Champions League of late but a real chance of Premier League glory has eluded them and Rafa will look to strengthen the side this summer in order to mount a title challenge and also save his job at the same time. The Liverpool board and fans want success and Benitez will have to spend big to strengthen his squad.

One area where Liverpool could gain a competitive advantage over their rivals is in their attack. Sensational striker Fernando Torres played brilliantly last season, scoring over 30 goals and fitting into the English game like a duck to water. However Liverpool became dependent on their Spanish import and only Steve Gerrard contributed any consistency in front of goal with Torres. The Spaniard needs a top-class striking partner who can relieve the pressure put upon him in the team and I know just the man.

Get rid of Dirk Kuyt and Peter Crouch and make way for the talented David Villa. There is a lot of difference between a good striker and a world-class striker and Liverpool should look forward to Villa being of the latter variety.

Villa was top scorer at Euro 2008 despite missing the final glory on Sunday. He has been a consistent goalscorer in La Liga over the past couple of years and would obviously link up well with his international partner Torres in the Premier League.

With Valencia only just avoiding relegation last season, Villa will look to move away from the club in search of Champions League glory. He may also feel that a move away from Spain would be good for the development of his game rather than moving to Real Madrid or Barcelona. Valencia also have financial problems and a big transfer fee for Villa will surely be hard to turn down. He is sure to fetch in excess of £40million, especially after his exploits in Austria/Switzerland.

Benitez could surely lure his fellow countryman to Anfield, just as he did with Torres, and the goals would surely flow. Villa would be a real crowd favourite on Merseyside and Liverpool could look to not only Champions League glory but also to that long-awaited Premier League glory they so richly deserve. The new Chelsea manager Big Phil Scolari and the Ronaldo-less Manchester United will have to be on tip-top form to defeat the might of the Spanish matadors Villa and Torres.
