Arsenal had a disappointing end to the 2007/2008 season, failing once more to secure any silverware at the North London club.
The exit of Thierry Henry to Barcelona was a big loss for Arsene Wenger's side and he has struggled to replace the French striking ace. Henry was sensational during his time in the Premier League, an ever-consistent goalscorer who scared even the best defences. The crowds loved him and if Barcelona wanted to sell Henry then I'm sure Wenger would be in their like a shot.
However, this is just a dream and Arsenal need to build on their current young squad in the transfer window to keep pace with the other top three in the league. Although Emmanuel Adebayor scored a lot of goals last season and was a persistent threat in attack for the Gunners, I do not feel he can win the title for Wenger.
I think of him too much as goal poacher who lacks the overall quality of a top Premier League striker. It is his team-mates who are the real quality. Robin van Persie, Cesc Fabregas and Co. are the real stars at the Emirates Stadium and Adebayor with his wage demands should be shipped off to Europe during the summer so Arsenal can spend his transfer fee.
So who should Arsenal buy in the summer? My best bet is another French star in the Henry mould - Karim Benzema. The Lyon youngster is a top-class player and is still only 20 years of age. I have lost count of the number of important goals he has scored for his beloved French club as he has made himself an integral part of Lyon's title-winning side over the past couple of years.
He had a disappointing Euro 2008 with the French national side but, at such a young age, he has plenty of time to gain major honours. He was voted France's Player of the Year last season - indeed, he's regarded by many as the new Henry. Although he is contracted to Lyon until 2013, I am sure Wenger has the finances to buy the youngster out of his contract.
Benzema could be the Arsenal boss's new prodigy in his youthful squad. He would fit in well with the team and would not be nervous about starting life in the Premier League. Lyon are an excellent side but they will find it hard to gain European glory against the big English, Spanish and Italian clubs. A move to Arsenal would be great career development for the 20-year-old, though he may want to stay put for another season or so in France, having already won the last four French championships.
I could not think of a better manager than Wenger to bring the best out of his fellow countryman and Arsenal would really become a major force in the Premier League again with Benzema in attack alongside fellow youngsters Theo Walcott and Nicklas Bendtner.
Arsenal need a top-class striker to mount a title challenge and Benzema is the man to do it. Now Wenger needs to use his famed powers of persuasion to entice him to the Emirates Stadium - just as he did with Henry.

Adebayor cannot be compared to Benzema. Adebayor is a physical, tall striker that will not give you those shrills but is a simple scorer from headers and box goals or sometimes stunners (against Spurs). I would love to see Benzema along Van Persie or anyone and he is surely Henry touch but then again we have Walcott is pure Henry.

Simple answer. YES he can.

Aulas said he wouldn't sell him for anything less than 48 million. Wenger wouldn't pay half of that, even if he could afford it- which he cant. Benzema will never be in an Arsenal shirt

There is only one Thierry Henry. No one can replace or be like this real King of goalscorer. Karim Benzema & Theo Walcott is a real quality & can provide what we are lacking upfront. Hope & wish Walcott & Benzema partnership terrorise all the defence in the world in Arsenal colour. Cheers :)

I'd just like to post an obejection towards Barcelona and Milan. If ANY of you pay close to the £30mill Arsenal want for Adebayor, you are absolutely deluded! ´He has ONE good season to his name, and he needs 5 chances to score one goal, doesn't really assist others and has a big ego. The way he is talking about himself compared to Henry is simply ludacris. The day he brings in as much money in merchandise he deserves the same pay. He is simply stupid to listen to. really. I'd pay £17 mill TOPS!

i would love nothing more then to see benzema in an arsenal jersey!! but lets be realistic we cannot afford him just yet. hleb was brilliant for us but i do think it is time to see him go,, for a fairly big money move to barca, and huge money for adebayor to milan or barca, im talking 35 mill! thats a little bit of cash to splash for the gunners! i would love to see, benzema, diogo, bojan, pato, sahin, lulinha, kerlon, rakitic, sniejder, assaliti, drenthe, theres loads of young players that are going to be huge in a few years obviosly we cannot get all of them but i would love to see a few of those players come to the gunners!! liverpool should get villa, silva and quarezma and MAYBE 2 new wide backs, then it would be an arsenal v liverpool season for the title. arsene find us some new young gemz!! arsene wenger is also an incredible coach never let him go! anyone not agree?

I think that Karim Benzema will be coming to the Gunners within the next year or two. His a top quality striker and would be much better than Adebayor whos smoking something and wants a pay rise which he dosent deserve. Well dont you got one good season. Now your worth 30 mil. Thats complete Bull. He is worth around 18mil, but im not complaining. If Barca or Ac wanna pay 30 mil then go right ahead. All the better for us. Peace

Benzema deffinately has what it takes to be the next Henry and certainly even better than Henry because Benzema is already a complete striker...the only problem is that Wenger wouldnt pay a quarter of Aulas' asking price...but if you ask me he's on his way to either Spain or Italy...
Benzema come to either Barcelona or AC Milan...play in AC Milan's Christmas Formation of 4-3-2-1 you fit the bill perfectly!!

I COMPLETELY AGREE...Adebayor isn't a consistant striker and your right on topic when you stated that it takes him 5 chances to score one goal...and yes it is COMPLETE ludacris for Adebayor to even ask Wenger for HALF of what Henry's salary used to be when he was a Gunner!
