Less than a month to the start of the new season and Arsenal are just not ready. This does not bode well for the Arsenal faithful. Three barren years on, I seriously do not think any of us can endure another season of sniggering and ridicule from rival fans.
As our hopes disintegrated at the tail end of last season, many of us wondered what might have been if there were fewer injuries to our squad. Or if we had not let Lassana Diarra go. Or if we had signed some reinforcements in the January transfer window. Or this or that. But we all recognised the fact that the squad was too thin to go through a season.
So, are we ready for the coming season? With all the chipping and chopping, transfers and rumours, I don't know. Does Arsene Wenger know? Mathieu Flamini, Jens Lehmann and now Alexander Hleb have left, Emmanuel Adebayor could soon be gone while Aaron Ramsey and Samir Nasri have arrived.
In addition, Carlos Vela is back from his loan and Eduardo and Tomas Rosicky are scheduled to return from injuries a month or two after the season starts. With so many pieces of the puzzle not in place, it takes a brave man to say we are ready.
Last season's major statistics read like this:
The thing that cost us was the defence. Kolo Toure was rock solid but William Gallas was unpredictably great or lousy. However, when either one of them is out injured or suspended, we do not have a phenomenal goalkeeper to keep us in the game. Manuel Almunia is good but not sensational. I guess he is really the worst keeper among the top four teams.
The defence has not been reinforced with big signings. I absolutely believe in Gael Clichy or Bacary Sagna whenever they start for us, but where is the back-up? If Toure is injured for a long period of time (touch wood), I would think that would reduce our chance of winning anything by 50 per cent.
A sign of a champion includes stability. When we won our previous championships, the squad was settled and the players were united and focused. When we went on our ''Invincible'' run, the confidence was evident and the camaraderie was unquestionable. What do we have at the moment to mirror those moments? We have Mr Arsene Wenger.
The Professor has all the pieces of the puzzle in his hands. He knows who to let go and who can replace the departed. Maybe there will be another surprise signing (Andrei Arshavin or Gareth Barry) from Wenger that could turn the season in our favour. We have trusted him for so many years and I am going to trust him again. Many have said this is the last chance for Wenger and if he fails, he should be sacked (God forbid).
Come on, you Gunners! Wenger knows! Unite together for the coming season!

"Three barren years on, I seriously do not think any of us can endure another season of sniggering and ridicule from rival fans." Erm... yeah... think I'd die if someone ever said anything bad about my football club. Useless, pointless article with no insight

If he goes we are lost

Cesc and RvP have already basically said that they'll go when Wenger does. If people think we have problems trying to hold on to our players now, imagine the actual exodus that would happen if he were to leave. Most of our players sign up because of him. Obviously there will be a time when he goes but I don't see it happening for a while!

What a bad article. We let go of Wenger and we will be no betetr than Spurs.

Anyone who watches the Arsenal regularly knows Kolo, far from having a "rock-solid" season, was awful once he came back from the ACN. Before anyone calls for Wenger to go, name we one coach you'd want to replace him. There's a reason Madrid and Barcelona would give anything to hire Arsene.

Do people who write these kind of articles actually know what they are talking about. We have a £24m per year loan to repay that is why we recruit young. We were 4 points off united for the prem - really awful season? Wenger goes we are F*****

No, he wont go (voluntary or forced) if we fail again. But we wont, so theres no point in a question like that.

Your title is a bit too agressive. Yes, it is hard to take when the club you love so much is taking too long to win anything. It hurts and it is really hurting us. But we have to keep our criticism contructive and try to understand why AW is reluctant to take the boom and bust style of managment. The future of Arsenal is bright and we need to accept to suffer another one or two years without any trophy. I can leave with that for another two years, allowing full economic stability we need, because I am against any form of a take-over at Arsenal (including American Krenke, the same tobacco). My real concern for the last three seasons is that AW scouts have been chasing too many lightweight players that is making us to easy to bully in EPL. We need more strong and tall players in order to build a winning squad. The like of Henry, Anelka and Viera were tall and strong players as well as technical. This is what we really need to remain competitive at all levels. So, please, team balance must be on your agenda this season AW.

guys, i think the author is asking us to retain Wenger. finish the article till the last page. Jumping to conclusions does not help anyone. including ourselves. I think its insightful in the sense that we do have a lot of problems in the club to the extent that ppl are asking Wenger to leave but Arsene knows. Right?

Here we go again....another doomsayer...Arsenal are finished, their youth and reserves players can't cut it in the EPL, Kolo is the only defender we have, all hope is illusory....everyone is abandoning ship...Arsenal are finished; dead and buried....etc.,etc. ad nauseam! Doesn't this sound familiar (think back to the 2007-8)...Henry is gone, Arsenal are no more...the invincibles are history...Wenger is gomeless...etc. Commentary like Arsenalfriends.com is absolute crap. Not only does Arsenal have the best defensive backs in the EPL but when Kolo is on, he is one of the best centrebacks in the EPL. Sure the Senderos the "Swiss miss" is an accident looking for a place to happen a lot of the time but he is maturing and improving. Yes Hleb and Flamoney have jumped ship but Fabregas,Nasri,Song and company can readily fill in. RVP, Adebayor, Bendtner, Eduardo(once he returns), Vela, Rosicky, Walcott, Denilson, Ramsey,etc.,etc. are magnificent replacements and if you count their combined ages and potential, Arsenal and Wenger can look forward to a powerful, mobile, fluid, dynamic and entertaining soccer display for 2008-9. The players that left may be in their primes now(except for Lehman and Silva) but the Arsenal curse will catch up with them as it has almost every player that leaves. Last season, key injuries, the African Cup, needless ties and lost points (all within 2.5 weeks) ended Arsenal's hopes for Europe and the EPL Cups/championship yet they still beat the EC Champions at home in a magnificent display of English League Football and came within 5 points of Man.U. I can't and won't predict what will happen in 2008-9 other than to say that Arsene will produce another beautiful Football team and will remain their Manager for at least another 4-5 years, unless the Board go insane and pull the stupidist move in the history of Association Football.
