In a financial climate which favours the mega-wealthy south of the border, it intrigues me to see a team like Rangers do so well in the UEFA Cup. However, what is more interesting is whether they can repeat the feat and reach another final. And why shouldn't they?

Walter Smith's men are not the free-flowing Arsenal, or the skillfull pacey mesmeric men of Catalunya, but they are a team built on strong principles, a team that will fight and die for each other on the pitch.

As a Rangers supporter it brings great joy to my life that I support a team that stands for such principles and oozes teamwork, team spirit and a deep down togetherness.

People tell me that it's a massive achievment to reach even the last 16 of the UEFA Cup and that this feat can be looked on as a successful job well done.

But I'd rather see Rangers reach the Champions League, finish third in their group and then go on to win the UEFA Cup. I'm not wishing to show a lack ambition or anything, but I don't see Rangers competing with the Manchester Uniteds of this world.

I'd love to see us get to the UEFA final again - and this time lift the cup that should have been ours last season. Good luck to Walter and the boys!
