In 2006 Lewis Hamilton was selected to be the second driver for McLaren Mercedes, winning the role after conjecture that drivers such as Mika Hakkinen and Perdo de la Rosa would be paired with defending world champion Fernando Alonso.
Officially, the announcement was made at the end of September, but the official statement was delayed by months - as arguably the greatest modern driver in motor sport, Michael Schumacher, retired.
In 2007, Lewis Hamilton finished the season with an incredible 109 points, narrowly missing the title to Kimi Raikkonen. Many argued that it was a poor finish to the last two races of the season that ultimately cost Lewis the chance to become the first black world champion.
Nonetheless, Hamilton’s debut season was the most successful rookie season in the celebrated history of the Formula 1 world championship. He claimed an astonishing nine consecutive podiums in his first nine races. He won the Canadian, United States, Hungarian and Japanese Grand Prix.

I am 100% sure Hamilton has the "drive" to de throne the Ice Man, as does every man in F1. The big question is does he have the ability? He seems to have ability to crater when under great pressure. Kimi did NOT earn his nickname by luck. As in any sport once a man has reached the top the rumors start. You will see the Ice Man with another championship this year and possibly many more in the future. Jeff

Lewis Hamilton, like most things 'English', is vastly overrated. I remember Jenson Button recently said Hamilton has probably lost his only opportunity to win the title. Though a lot of people just brushed it off as pure jealousy on the part of Jenson, I think he was right. I wouldnt be surprised if, say, ten years down the line I would still be watching Lewis Hamilton chase his first F1 Drivers Championship Title.
