The greatest Rugby League player of all time, in my opinion, is Andrew Johns, one of the world’s finest half-backs nd is one of only two player’s to have won the Golden Boot award more than once.

He played for Australian and at his club team, Newcastle Knights, he finished his career with a staggering 2,176 points. He was also a member of Australia’s team of the century and has received the award of the best player of the last 30 years.

After starting playing with youth club Cessnock, he joined the junior ranks of Newcastle Knights. He was promoted to the first team squad at the age of 19, forming a good partnership with his brother. On his debut game he scored 23 points and was named Man of the Match.

He made his first international appearance for Australia in 1995 and in the same year Australia won the Rugby World Cup and Johns was named as the most valuable player of the tournament.

In 1997 the Newcastle Knights won their first Premiereship title, due in no small way to the performances of Andrew Johns, and tghe way in whbich he rescued victory for the Knights just six seconds before the final whistle will long be remembered.

On the retirement of Paul Harragon, Johns was made captain of the Knights and he proved that he was not only a great player but also a fine leader..He led his side to victory in 2001 in the Premiereship and also captained the Australian national side.

One interesting part of his career is that he played domestic cricket as well in Australia, butg his true love was Rugby League and he never made the same impact with bat and ball.

He was forced to retire in 2007 due to the increasing number of injuries which he sustained and one particular problem with his neck which finally forced him to hang up his boots.

Andrew Johns, amazing Australian half-back, was the greatest of all time in my opinion.
