Jonny Wilkinson's back with a bang - but England can go wild about Harry!

As an Englishman living in Wales, I can just hear the taunts that will be coming my way after England’s magnificent victory against Scotland in the Calcutta Cup. “A one-man side”, the Welsh will argue. “England are rubbish without Jonny Wilkinson - and win through his kicking.”

In the past there may have been an element of truth in this, but not on Saturday; it was a superb England team performance with quality  all over the pitch.

Firstly hats off to new coach Brian Ashton, the mastermind behind this victory. His first England side looked a completely different one from Andy Robinson’s turgid and tedious team, despite having many of the same players involved. He has made some brave selection choices in the run-up to this game and has been rewarded in the best fashion possible.

Many felt it had been a rash choice to select Wilkinson after only 40 minutes of professional rugby in the past three months - but Ashton has been vindicated, and in some style. The fly-half was imperious, kicking 22 points and scoring a try. Not only that, but bringing Jason Robinson back and giving Andy Farrell a chance also seem to have been wise moves. New captain Phil Vickery, too, led by example and was commanding across the field.
