Persistent is the word that comes to mind when i try to describe the Wallabies. They are always there and there abouts at the world cup. Although it is a different team that played in past world cups, this year's players have something to draw from. The past performances of past teams gives this Wallaby side confidence and hope at the world cup, simple as that. I would say the analysis of the Weaknesses are spot-on. I would hightlight the fact that other teams as well may be focusing too much on the vulnerabilies of the All Blacks. When you do that you forget about immediate dangers. James, you rightly point that often this Wallaby team has not put away teams they should. That is a real danger. Forget about the ABs for now, worry about Wales first, then either Eng or SA. That is quite a tough road to victory. There is one thing i disagree with - although it may appear Australia has a hold over NZ in world cups, this team does not have the same hold - not yet anyway, only having beaten NZ once, and lost many

The truth is the Wallabies are coming out from a very poor performance period. Although the likes of Eales and Kearns and McQueen rabbit on about how great they are - the evidence of recent performance speaks otherwise! There are too many generic weakness's in the Wallaby team for them to mount a real challenge ie the front row, old players (who wont be able to cope against the aggression of young guys fired up). Misplaced confidence should spell disaster for this wallaby team!

The Aussies never have the most talented team its there mental toughness that gets them accross the line

Funny I always thought you had to win something to have the wood over someone.

As an actual All Blacks fan, I wrote this as a partial view on the Wallabies. Hopefully my All Blacks preview will be published to show you what I mean. In the last twelve games, the All Blacks have won nine, but it is the big match occasions which the Wallabies have proven that they can compete.

Timing is all at the World Cup. The Wallabies are coming on, just as the All Blacks are going off. France is the danger team.

France are crap. It will be the AB's, SA or Aus who takes it. Hopefully it's NZ!!

The wallabies are coming on is there form really that good they beat a very below par All Blacks side at the Convict Gathering and i think were outplayed by the all blacks in nz and struggled to beat the SA bteam i wouldnt be so confident and you look at there lack of depth in there squad what if Mortlock gets injured the best outside centre in the world they are no hope and there scrum i dont see to much to get excited about plus the got the curfew crap where they wont be allowed to have fun in France i think the RWC is out of reach for the Wallabies.

What is it with the Aussie jerseys? those two parrots (pictured in this article) sitting on their Aussie perch almost look like they are wearing a bra!! (wouldn't surprise me)
James - You have left out one key strength in Sterling Mortlock. If he plays he will be a prolific try scorer for this Aussie team. Sterling can beat anyone and can play all day. He's bound to cause problems for all teams. Personally he's one of favourite players to watch. Tough as teak!

I agree, Mortlock is a strength for the Wallabies, and with the whingy Irish BOD probably the worlds best number 13. But I don't rate him as a strength because I believe his captaincy is not as strong as believed by the ARU. Did you see him seething at the recent Bledisloe in Auckland. I question his temperment. Also his continued comments "we're good enough, blah blah". I think he understimates the All Blacks.
Following on from my previous comment, in that recent Auckland Bledisloe, when he made that tackle on Doug Howlett, he seethed and ranted. The All Blacks then kicked a penalty (there was no unfair sinbinning like Carl Hayman) and Mortlock reckons that won the AB's the game. How does one penalty win a team a game, when the All Blacks were clearly dominant and won with a two converted try buffer. He's a baby.
James, I agree he's always been a very aggressive, abrasive player. He's also suffered some massive hits over the years, but he still keeps going! He's not afraid of other players. I don't know about his captaincy skills? His paddy reminds abit of John Kirwin, he used to be like that, prone to the odd tantrum after being tackled. I still think Stirling will cut most teams up at this RWC! As to the complaining, it seems there is a never ending whinge from other teams against NZ. Most things complained of are common in the game though. Why pick the AB's out? I think they hate the support that NZers give the All Blacks. They hate the fact that we expect the team to win. But over here the NZRU put so much into the team, so many ex All Blacks are involved in the sport, the brains bank is huge. Rod McQueen built the Wallabies with similar skill. Remember their innovative sports academy where we saw the line out forwards all practising jumping on those rubber bands? Very innovative. Aussie could do with Rod Mc

I think the Wallabies will be there and abouts agin come semi's time. However, I have 2 specific reasons why they will fail to gain the trophy for a 3rd time. If you look closely at their last two RWC victories you will notice 2 very specific details. One was the leadership and captaincy of both those victories. Another key point is the fact that Australia had forward packs that were able to compete ably against the very best forward packs in world rugby. What was also a strength was the inclusion of enigmatic players that were nearly as big as the game. The Campese's, Eale's, Farr-jone's and Horans played a huge bearing on those victories. Finally the biggest reason why the Wallabies wont win is quite simply because they dont have the coaching staff good enough to do it.
