Arsene Wenger is apparently lining up a pair of new signings from Spain in the summer.
First up we have 30-year-old Valencia stalwart David Albelda who is being eased out of the Mastella after almost nine years of service (Daily Star). Boss Ronald Koeman has left the Spanish international midfielder and club captain out in the cold and Wenger is not the only Premier League manager showing an interest, with Liverpool and Newcastle also monitoring the situation.
Albelda will be allowed to leave for nothing at the end of the season. Arsenal are also considering a £4m bid for goalkeeper Wilfredo Caballero who plays for Spanish league two side Elche (various)
The Argentinian apparently attracted the interest of a Gunners representative who was checking on the progress of youngster Fran Merida, currently on loan from the Emirates at Real Sociedad. The Arsenal scout was suitably impressed by the former Boca Juniors keeper.

Wenger does not need a backup for Almunia, he needs a new no 1 after Lehmann left. If Wenger seriously think a mediocre goalkeeper like Almunia can be our long-term no 1 he must be nuts.

ppls Almunia is just fine being nr1 goalkeeper...he proved it last season....what arsenal need is another strong central midfielder and upfront need some class david villa or robinho would fit in easy....then one or two skillfull players like giovanni dos santos and nasri....it wouls be a big mistake bringing henry back although his my best player...
