Darren Bent has in many ways been badly treated by the media. The word flop is used far too often and in the former Charlton man’s case it is grossly unfair.

Yes, the fee paid for his services was probably a little too high, but that’s not really his fault. He has struggled to get a foothold in the Spurs team, but given who is ahead of him in the queue this is not surprising.

Anyway it does seem fairly likely that the England international is on his way out in the summer. Depending on what papers you read many sides are after the striker, the front-runners being West Ham, Aston Villa and Newcastle (various).

‘Bent could do a good job at Upton Park. Don’t forget that he has managed five goals in 11 starts for Spurs.’

A sticking point might come in the form of a fee. Quite rightly, Daniel Levy and his board want to recoup some of the £16m they paid Charlton. Upton Park seems the most likely destination, and I think Bent could do a good job there. Don’t forget that he has managed five goals in 11 starts (and a wealth of sub appearances).

He hasn’t become a failure overnight – he managed good returns in a struggling side at the Valley and can do so again. He has a bright future, but it’s unlikely to be in north London.
