Can't help but feel a bias here... Nah, this is a fine piece to promote football. Although you have missed the oportunity of stating that those ignorant blokes on the other side of the Atlantic call this sport which needs you to kick the ball with your foot (hence the name football) soccer whilst they call their version (where you carry, pass and catch with your hands!) football. Also I don't think excluding basketball but including Sumo Wrestling to be logical. Someone with the height of 150 cm can play basketball just as well as a 40 kg beastly geek can play sumo wrestling. Also you missed out on a couple of pretty capable sports, namely alpine skiing, ski jumping, nordic skiing, handball, waterpolo, volleyball, I know they don't come close to football, but still... One last thing: I'm sorry to inform you that beach volleyball has been around for more than ten years, being a computer freak I remember that the Pro Beach Volley championships had it's own game in 1989 with then unstopab

not talking about ice hockey, thats just an excuse to start a fight, but hockey gives u everything football does, its faster, and ends in 70 not 90 minutes.

first of all i dont know how athletics qualified??? second in cricket sledging has been part of the game since forever Bradman and the invincibles were quite good at it. thirdly i really enjoyed most of the article
i read in a book about football that the term 'football' was originally used to describe a game not played with your foot, hence why other sports that for the most part dont includethe use of you feet to prgress the ball have the name football

If you mean the game that is played with the feet , i will agree but certainly not the one where the player runs with the ball in hand and shout touch down, please dont make a mockery of the word football. thank you.

darts not a sport ? wash your mouth out. now that the players are not getting hammered on stage it is evident standards of play are rising so the influence of alcohol argument is a dead one im afraid
