LONDON (Reuters) - Spanish rider Aitor Gonzalez has been banned for two years for doping after the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Friday upheld an appeal by the International Cycling Union (UCI).

Gonzalez, 31, tested positive for the stimulant methyltestosterone in an out-of-competition test on August 26 last year and in a test during the Tour of Spain on September 9.

The Euskaltel rider blamed a contaminated food supplement prescribed by a doctor and in May the Spanish Cycling Federation dropped the case, prompting an appeal by the UCI.

The Lausanne-based CAS said in a statement that Gonzales, who won the Tour of Spain in 2002, had "not acted without fault or negligence in using a doubtful food supplement...".

A two-year ban, which came into force on September 9 2005, was imposed.
