NEW YORK (Reuters) - Top seed Roger Federer and number two Rafael Nadal are in action at the U.S. Open on Wednesday with players, organisers and spectators alike hoping for better weather.
Federer, gunning for his third straight U.S. Open title, will play Taipei's Yeu-Tzuoo Wang in the first round, and arch-rival Nadal faces Australian wild card Mark Philippoussis.
No matches were completed on Tuesday after heavy rain turned into mist by nightfall.
Top seed Amelie Mauresmo had trouble with German qualifier Kristina Barrois before rain halted their match.
Mauresmo won the first set 6-1 but trailed 5-2 in the second when the players were forced off court and they will return to Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday.
Third seed Maria Sharapova and number eight Martina Hingis will be in action for the first time in the tournament.
Sharapova takes on Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands in one of the marquee night matches at Ashe Stadium, and Hingis faces Shuai Peng of China in Louis Armstrong Stadium.
