A consortium headed by former Scotland midfielder Graeme Souness has made a written offer to buy second-division club Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey told the club's official Web site (www.wolves.premiumtv.co.uk) on Wednesday:

"I can confirm that following the signing of confidentiality agreements this evening, we have now received a formal written offer for the club on behalf of Graeme Souness and others. Both parties have agreed not to make any further public comments."

Souness, who confirmed on Tuesday he had made a 20 million pounds offer for the club, said in a statement: "Following my verbal offer myself and my partners -- all of whom are UK-born and based -- made a written offer which is being considered."

Souness declined to name his main backer but was quoted by the BBC saying: "He is a British businessman with British-based interests. We believe we put together a plan for Wolves that is exciting and which supporters would find appealing."
