PARIS - Wasps booked a place in the Heineken Cup quarter-finals with a 16-13 win at Castres on Saturday while Stade Francais progressed with a 47-6 trouncing of Calvisano.

Wasps, winners of the trophy in 2004, secured a home tie in the last eight as one of the four best finishers in the six groups. Stade Francais finished top of Pool Three but will play their quarter-final away. They ended the group phase with a flourish, scoring six tries.

"We were in a difficult situation. We needed to win with a bonus point," said prop Sylvain Marconnet. "We did our job, it's a shame the other results didn't go our way because we'll have to play our quarter-final away."

In the other Pool Three game, the Ospreys kept alive hopes of qualifying as one of the two best second-placed teams by winning 18-7 at English champions Sale. The Welsh side picked up tries from Steve Tandy and Stefan Terblanche, Juan Fernandez Lobbe replying for the Sharks.

Wasps needed an away win to finish top of Pool One. "We scored the points when it was needed," said hooker Raphael Ibanez."It was a tight game because we made a few mistakes but the possibility of playing the final at Twickenham was maybe an extra motivation."

After fly-half Alex King scored two penalties and a drop goal in the first half, wing Tom Voyce registered Wasps' only try in the 46th minute after catching a pass which bounced off the back of a Castres player. King added the conversion to give the Londoners a 16-9 lead.

In the other Pool One game, Perpignan defeated Treviso 45-25. Leinster, who had already secured top spot in Pool Two, suffered a 19-13 defeat at Gloucester on Friday and will have to play their quarter-final away.
