Unseeded Croat Ivo Karlovic served his way into the final of the San Jose Open on Saturday with a 7-6 7-5 victory over German Benjamin Becker.

Karlovic, the world number 103, fired down 27 aces to reach his second career ATP Tour final, where he will play either American top seed Andy Roddick or defending champion Andy Murray.

"I was serving really good, that was the key," Karlovic said, after taking his aces tally to 87 for the week.

"But I also think in the crucial moments I returned well too."

Sixth seed Becker, who beat Marat Safin in the quarter-finals, threw his racket down in anger after losing the first-set tiebreak 7-5.

Karlovic, who beat James Blake and Mardy Fish on his way to the last four, grew in confidence in the second set and after breaking in the 11th game, he served out for victory.

The Croat lost to Roddick in his only previous final, at Queen's Club in London in 2005, but said he did not mind who he played on Sunday.

"If it is Roddick, he serves big and I think there would be at least one tiebreak," he said.

"Murray is one of the best returners, so it's going to be very difficult either way, but I am just going to enjoy myself out there. I have nothing to lose."
