How did you find out about Sportingo?

I’ve been speaking with the folks behind Sportingo for some time now, sharing ideas and experiences from our respective websites. But it’s always been a very passive, relaxed exchange and I’m excited to be able to really get my hands dirty and really push some of my ideas through on Sportingo.

What made you decide to work with Sportingo?

'We share the same vision for user-generated content in the sporting world and the creation of fan journalists'

They’ve got a great model and we share the same vision for user-generated content in the sporting world and the creation of fan journalists. The opportunity to help lead the execution of that vision is a very exciting prospect. It’s nonsense to believe that the young lad in the pub who follows football religiously, living and dying by his club, would not do a fantastic job covering a match from the press box or interviewing a player. The only difference is access, a bit of training, and maybe a nice suit. We can help with the more important two of those three.

What do you think of the community so far?

It’s active, but hasn’t really been shaped yet or developed its own culture. There are some great changes in store for the website in the next few months that will not only help a great community form naturally and thrive, but create one that is unique to any other sports website.

Will CaughtOffside.com remain the same?

No, it will get better. I will still be firmly in charge and writing regularly, the only difference is that the partnership with Sportingo means CaughtOffside will now have access to far more resources than it used to. Things are definitely on the up.

How do you feel that your participation will benefit both sites…

I think shaping the direction and quality of the articles as well as the community itself will be a big part of my new role. This is a new kind of journalism and a new kind of sports news website; our goal is to eventually match the quality of content of the ‘established press’ but that will take some time and a lot of work. I can’t wait.
