This year at the Acura Classic its a case of East meets west or Europe takes on the US. Jankovic today quickly skipped past Vania King 6-3 6 -0 of the USA and joins many of her European counterparts in the third round.  Infact  Jelena and her european colleagues wont see an American until the final. However, should the seedings pair out what a chance America now has.

Venus William sits amongst some strong contenders on the opposite side of the draw and isnt alone flying the flag for the USA. Megan Shaugnessy is also still in contention as is American based Russian Sharipova. Sharipova and Williams both have huge fan bases in San Diego and look forward to cracking the top half in the battle of east v west. Sharipova, however, would most likely see it as east v east as she steadfastly maintains she is all Russian.

However in the battle of the bulging east, it is Janckovic that is drawing the attention. She has steamrolled the rankings so far this year and dearly loves the US hardcorts. Jelena is feeling rested and confident and is ready now to make her move into the coverted top two spots.

My prediction for the Acrua Classic is to watch Jelena -Bride of this years US hard courts.
