The 2007 DISHED Awards for exploits in sports doping

It has been another ugly year of doping scandals plummeting to new lows (just ask Greg LeMond how low) so for a change of tack I’ll indulge in a bit of light-hearted banter of the year's high and low lights. Before diving into the sea of scandals, though, I propose that exploits in the doping field be afforded award status, like the Oscars, Grammys and the like as there were some fine ‘acts’ during the year.

I’ll call these the DISHED (Drugs In Sport Honoraria Encouragement and Dishonoraria) awards for ‘serving’ up exploits worthy of praise, encouragement or condemnation. I have listed many different categories but I am sure that readers have plenty more in mind that are just as topical or controversial.

Lost Award: The proposition to fit Global Positioning Systems was one out of the box and of course was met with the expected criticism from the privacy and human-rights corner. But GPSs should be introduced and the first athlete it should be strapped onto is Michael Rasmussen. It was a case of ‘we seek him here, we seek him there’, moving more deftly than the Scarlet Pimpernel. A GPS would not be ‘lost’ on Christine Ohuruogo, either.
