With so many new writers joining Sportingo, we thought it appropriate to draw attention to the site's latest talent - and we have pleasure in introducing basketball and tennis fan Ben Fisher.

Ben wins a £25 award as New Author of the Month and Sportingo editor Phil Smith says:

"It is a pleasure to edit Ben's articles. He writes exceedingly well, has command of the English language and constructs articles like a pro. What I particularly enjoy is that Ben always tries a different approach to writing about sport rather than the usual run-of-the-mill stuff.  We are very much looking forward to receiving more of Ben's articles."

How long have you been a sports fan?
I was pretty well being nurtured into sports fandom from birth. My first real sports-related memory came in 1992, when my dad and I jumped up and down with excitement after the Toronto Blue Jays became the first team outside the US to win the World Series.

What is the best match you have ever seen?
Game six of the 2001 NBA Eastern Conference semi-final series between Toronto and the Philadelphia 76ers. A boisterous capacity crowd at the Air Canada Centre had plenty to cheer about as hometown Raptors topped their counterparts 101-89 in an exciting game played amidst an electric atmosphere. I had the pleasure of being on hand.

What is your dream match-up?
Assuming that they were both at the top of their respective games, it would be fascinating to see Fernando Gonzalez and Marat Safin, two of tennis’ hardest hitters, take to the court, if only to see how many tins of balls would be needed over the course of the match.

How long have you been involved with Sportingo? I joined late last year and began writing stories on the site earlier this month.

What are your goals as a Sportingo author?
As an aspiring sports journalist, it is important to me to hone my craft and collect on-going input from others. Sportingo offers an invaluable opportunity to write freely and receive critical feedback from fellow sports and writing fanatics.

How did you find Sportingo?
It was recommended to me through a friend.

What do you like best about writing for Sportingo? The freedom to express opinions and open up a dialogue with other authors.

What one thing would you do to improve Sportingo?
Open it up to a more diverse sporting landscape. Being from Canada, it seems strange to me that baseball, ice hockey and American football don’t have a presence on the main page of the Sportingo site.
