F1: Is 2008 going to be Lewis Hamilton's year?
The young man from Hertfordshire took F1 by storm last season only to be pipped at the post. This year, Britain's newest sporting hero will surely be cracking open a lot of champagne bottles on the racetrack podiums of the world.

Last year was one of failures in English sport, as our teams narrowly missed out on a Rugby World Cup crown and a limp and lifeless Euro 2008 qualification campaign made up the misery for football fans. But the last-gasp disappointment for F1 star Lewis Hamilton should not be considered a failure as it was nothing short of a monumental performance which just ran out of gas. And 2008 is a new year bringing hope for Britain’s newest hero.In a season that was the first of the post-Michael Schumacher era, the 23-year-old Hertfordshire lad helped keep the sport above water. The importance of the German legend on the sport of Formula One can not be overestimated. Bernie Ecclestone, Max Mosley and the FIA needed an exciting season with new sights for a sport that had for too long depended on huge support that followed Schumy’s every move. Hamilton was the driver to do just that, and he didn’t disappoint. 'The last-gasp disappointment for F1 star Lewis Hamilton should not be considered a failure' The climax to the 2007 season couldn’t have been more dramatic and the young McLaren driver, along with the mesmerising Finn Kimi Raikkonen helped breathe new life into F1. And the signs point to another great spectacle this year. There are new faces including Nelson Piquet Junior and illustrious Champ Car legend Sébastien Bourdais as well as the rising stars in the field such as Heikki Kovalainen whose performances earned him a spot at McLaren in place of Fernando Alonso (his return to Renault will also be an interesting prospect). Many will believe that the Spaniard’s return could give the French team a realistic prospect at the title, but this may simply be wishful thinking given their poor reliability in 2007.There were off-circuit issues that brought unnecessary media attention to the sport, the spygate saga and the moaning antics of Alonso come to mind. One would hope that the action on the track makes the back page news this year and with a young hope like Hamilton surging through there is every chance that this F1 season will be a truly memorable one.

looking at last seasons drivers championship left a lot to be desired especially with a driver by the name of lewis who likes to spit his dummy out of his formula one chariot.its about time they realised how many people follow this boy and afterall thats all he is at the moment, its been a long time since we saw a true champion and who was he you ask most would say nigel mansell but it was james hunt who used to battle through his racing.i always think if you start from pole position and call yourself a professional then you shouldnt loose,my idea is a driver that fights for the glory and the burning of the rubber who really captures your heart and passion.today unfortunately its a case of more money than sense, playboy lifestyles and a couldnt care lifestyle and lets not forget the cheaters.formula one is just that a formula for a greater lifestyle or a spiral of if only for lewis its a case of dont run before you can walk.

Good on Hamilton for acting in the manner he did to the racism dished out by the dirty Spaniards, that country should be ashamed of itself after the treatment they gave the black English footballers and even domestic players like Roberto Carlos.

I think that after the next couple of races we will be able to tell who has a chance at winning, for sure Alonso will not, and I think that Hamilton will not win this year, he is still not mentally prepared, if he lost the title when he basically had it in his pocket, I see it very difficult for him to win having to battle with Raikonnen.
