NEW YORK (Reuters) - Former world number one Lindsay Davenport crushed Croatia's Jelena Kostanic 6-0 6-0 in 40 minutes on Thursday to race into the third round of the U.S. Open.

The 10th seed blasted 24 winners and allowed Kostanic just 21 points in total as she breezed through to a meeting with either Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia or Russian Ekaterina Bychkova.

"Some days everything just seems to be working," Davenport said.

"Today I played well, I knew I had to come back and play tomorrow so, happy I can get it over fast."

Davenport quit midway through the New Haven Open final last weekend as she was hampered by a sore shoulder but an extra day of rest thanks to Tuesday's rain helped her to recover.

"I was petty worn out last week so the time off didn't hurt me. I was happy to rest my body," she said.
