Australian Open – Day Seven
Today it was the women's turn to hot up the Australian Open - with reigning champion Amelie Mauresmo's defeat by a relative unknown the big surprise. The French favourite lost in two sets to Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic, ranked 70 in the world, on a day of shocks.

Shahar Peer from Israel beat fourth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia, also in straight sets, and will probably advance to a career-best ranking of 15 even before she plays her quarter-final against Serena Williams. The American continued her comeback with a win over Jelena Jankovic.

Other women's winners were China's Na Li, who beat Dinara Safina, and surprise package Nicole Vaidisova, 18, who  downed 'serveless' Elena Dementieva.

The men's draw went through a relatively uneventful day with some seeds staring at defeat before coming through in the end. Andy Roddick was taken to five sets by Croatia's Mario Ancic before securing his place in the last 16, while Tommy Robredo of Spain and American Mardy Fish needed four sets each against Richard Gasquet and David Ferrer respectively.

Roger Federer continued his easy passage with a comfortable win over Serb youngster Novak Djokovic and Czech Tomas Berdych beat Russian Dmitry Tursunov in three sets.

Day Eight
The clash between Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal will be Monday's match of the day. Other major confrontations include Tommy Haas v. David Nalbandian, Maria Sharapova v. Vera Zvonareva, James Blake v. Fernando Gonzales, Kim Clijsters v. Daniella Hantuchova and Na Li v. Martina Hingis.
