FLUSHING MEADOWS, NY - Roger Federer shared his thoughts after winning the 2006 US Open for his eighth Grand Slam title in three years.

On the pressure he felt during the tight moments of the middle two games:

"I was definitely under pressure…in the third set I felt like Andy was starting to play better and serve better…from then on I had to make sure I held serve. At the end of the third, he had a terrible game, I took advantage of it, and from then on I didn't look back."

On his performance:

"I was very happy with the game…because the start was great and the finish was great, and what was in between doesn't really matter. This is a great moment in my career."

On flopping onto the court after winning match point:

"I deserve to lie down. Can't I give myself a break, from standing up and sitting down? I just thought lying down would be more comfortable. It was a good feeling."

On his career:

"I came here first time as a Wimbledon champion in 2003 and people told me 'this hardly ever happens, people winning Wimbledon and the US Open back-to-back, even in the women's game it hasn't happened that often.' I was like 'Oh really? I don't care. I'm going to try to win the Open anyhow.' So look what happens."

On turning the corner:

"Early on in my career, I couldn't win the Masters Series. I couldn't win the Slams, I was struggling to win other titles, and I needed a change of attitude towards the game to turn the corner. I did that so well that it paid off incredibly…I always knew that I was talented and had potential and everything but…it's a different league winning so many.

On his success:

I'm shocked myself how well it's been going the last three four years…being compared not only to great tennis players, but great athletes in other sports…it's just really nice."
