Hello? Is anybody out there? Is it me, or did someone just hand Maria Sharapova the best draw ever at this year's U.S. Open?

I want to know who facilitates the positioning of the draw. Who determines which player will play whom? How does this work exactly? Do they put the names in a hat and draw? I know I’m not being realistic with the last question, but I refuse to tell you guys what I’m really thinking.

I was shocked when I saw that Maria has little to no competition in her half of the draw, the only person that may give her some trouble is Svetlana Kuznetsova. Be that as it may, I look forward to seeing Maria in action. No matter the player, Maria does bring a sense of superiority on the court. Her sheer determination and will power is something I aspire to.

I understand that rankings play a major part when determining which player will play the top ranked players. But, I don’t understand the layout. However, I think some changes need to occur in the system. But who am I?

After Justine Henin was upset at Wimbledon by Marion Bartoli, I can’t wait to see how well Bartoli is playing. I want to know is Bartoli really that good or did she catch Justine on a bad day? I’m hoping she is that good. I really like her play and she seems so humble. So, after her performance at Wimbledon, she’s one of the WTA players I decided I would keep on my radar.

I know Serena Williams and Venus Williams, on their worst day can beat any of their opponents, so, I’m really not that concerned about the two of them being in the same half of the draw as Justin Henin.
Serena, barring any injuries will come out swinging, literally. Venus, will be her royal self and do the business. With the Williams sisters, I’m just excited to see what they will be wearing. Especially since they will play back to back, on opening night following a well deserved tribute to the late Althea Gibson, celebrating the 50th anniversary of her historic win at the U.S. Nationals.

On the men’s side, it looks like Andy Roddick could meet Roger Federer in the quarterfinals which may destroy my hopes of Andy making it to the semi finals. But, with Roger looking more like Batman than Superman lately, we may be in for a treat. If Andy can make it past Roger, I have no doubt he will win the tournament.

The other top American, James Blake, has a pretty easy draw. James can easily make it to the quarterfinals, but once there I’m just not so sure. James isn’t consistent, nor does he have the confidence in himself to go much further. I hope after this season, James will do some soul searching and find himself a new coach, and finds security in his game that will boast his confidence.

Finally, my pick to win this year’s open is Rafael Nadal, once again barring any injuries, I see Nadal taking the title. Rafael is a competitor. He hates to lose and the loss to Novak Djokovic, I’m sure made him feel as though he as something to prove. Nadal is really the ONE to watch.

This year's U.S. Open is sure to be a thriller full of excitement, upsets, tantrums, drama and victory. I can’t wait!
