You said Hingis hasn't one a tournament this year, well she has in Tokyo. I'm a pure Williams sister fan but i love to see Hingis. But i think that her mental strength needs work. She has said thet she doesn't believe that she can win a slam at the moment. Fine that is most likely true. But sometimes champions shouldn't look at it like that, they need to say that they can win. Serena didn't say she couldn't do it at the AO, all she did was believe and look what happened. Hingis' game does struggle at times when up against the players like Venus, but her game is well mixed and if used in the right way can acheive great results. If Hingis wants to regain the glory days she needs believe that she can get there. The biggest thing holding her back is herself.

this is an era of tennis which is not favourable for hingis... her time has passed by, and although i love to watch her play, she would have been better of if she had never returned... girls today are physically too powerful for martina to play on equal terms with them... she would be wise to re-retire and not waste her hard earned fame

It's all about confidence in Martina's case. Last year everyone determined her comeback year as a "glorious" comeback, and she did indeed with The Laureaus prize for comeback of the year. This year she started off extremely well, her first three tournaments were two finals and a quarter (of a slam). She won her third tournament beating Ivanovic in straight sets, one of the games hardest hitters. Martina has the game, but is clearly lacking the confidence after a string of injuries which have really hampered with the second half of year. She only played a couple of matches in a few months due to injuries, lost the habit of winning and is still struggling to regain the "winning habit". One thing I've learned in the past is that one should never underestimate Martina Hingis.

Thanks for the correction on titles Aasim, Tokyo slipped my mind. I think we are all in agreement that Hingis needs to improve her confidence, but how does she do that off the court? More physical training? More practicing? Like Michael said, she has to regain the winning habit, but how can she do that when she is losing so often...?
Well if i was her coach (in my dreams) i would do the following: Take a break if the injuries are still there, a lot of practicing as well as physical training, motivation get confidence as well as sheer will to win. She can do it, her game is very good. She is so smart and i wish she can regroup. But all the things i have said (e.g long practice) can only really be acheived if she has that big will power. If she can solve that then other things like practrice and gameplans would rise at a huge rate. I can't express how much of a top player she can be even if she doesn't have the biggest power, it just simply comes down to her mental will power.

I agree it seems like Martina wont be back to her glory days, but I have one correction - she has won a title this year, she won the teir 1 event in tokyo in feb

I was glad to see Martina come back on the tour and hope she stays for a while. I love watching her, like her looks (sorry), like that she smiles on court like tennnis is still fun, and like how she plays the game. However, I REALLY REALLY REALLY wish she would get a COACH! Her mother cannot get her to where she has to go, and every major player (except maybe Roger has one). A fresh mind, a new approach, a bigger serve, a coach could put her back in contention at the top. I refuse to believe her size/physique prevent her from being the best. If Justine can do it, so can Martina!

It is indeed painful to see MY MARTINA performing at such low level...God! I love that girl sooo much. But the writer is right..she lacks confidence now and until she works on that area specifically, she will only be sinking further and further. And that will really be painful considering the fact that she has real 'tennis brains'. Secondly, just as the writer said, she has refused to change her technique and that is another fatal mistake...she must adapt her game to modern tennis. Who would ever have believed that Justine Henin (with her small physique) would be ruling tennis today? It's called evolution...spending extra time everyday developing new techniques and ways of overcoming ur opponents. I love Hingis...she is my all-time favourite player but she is disgracing herself now...and when I heard her make a comment to the effect that people still consider her a DANGEROUS FLOATER, I felt soooo low in my spirit...has she lost this much confidence in herself? what's a dangerous floater? Please if any one ha
what's a dangerous floater? Please if any one has her postal address, I would love to have it, so I can write and express my concerns to her personally...It would trully be unfortunate if she believes she can't make it again...SHE CAN and she MUST make an effort to...after all, there was a time she has beaten severally all those girls who are now being hailed as champions today (henin, mauresmo, hantuchova, dementieva, jankovic, etc.). MARTINA, U CAN MAKE IT AGAIN...SO NEVER GIVE UP no matter what ur detractors say about u...I LOVE U and so do many many others...

Hingis needs to get more physcially fit (she is a true all court player and all-court players need to be very fit to get to the net). She needs to take points from her opponent instead of relying on her ability to force errors from them; her best shot is her backhand so I think she needs to try and get more winners from that side even if she makes unforced erros while trying shes been losing so much anyway at least she can try something new while losing. Hingis did win a tournament this year, and a tier 1 at that in Tokyo, beating Ana Ivanovic. Hingis has improved her serve. Hingis still cannot last in 3 set matches. Hingis does show in-confidence. Hingis is still the smartest player on the womens tour right now. I agree with everyone else that Hingis needs to work on her mentality as well. She is a smart and strategic player so I think she needs to slow down when she is serving (since play starts at the servers speed)and take her time to think about what is going on and what she needs to do and also get tha

she MUST do something now if she want to be in top of women tennis again.she MUST believe in herself and think positive.stop using alibi and do what you need to my dear hingis.I would admit that i one of the happiest person when she return coz i miss those poise, finesse, character and a mind of real tennis player.Im always depressed and really hurt everytime she loses in a game..I really like to see the old hingis. I do hope and pray she done something about it..Loads of people believe in you and you done it before..I miss you and I love you martina hingis you're always my best player....

i've gotta agree there. her confidence seems to have been affected largerly following her hip injury. it was a serious injury, and obviously in sport it takes you a while to recover your form afterwards. i think what she needs to do is, when her season finishes (probably after zurich), she should go to a very hot climate, and then just start practising for the australian hardcourts (to get used to the climate over there), and then go to australia in early december, and she should be perfectly suited for her tournaments there when it's time to play. i think she should play auckland, as it is a lower tier, and therefore will have poorer players there, and she'd probably win the title, and then build her confidence back. i also think she should cut down her tournaments, as she plays too many long-distance ones, and they affect her mentally and physically. drop dubai, doha, china, los angeles, charleston for next year. also i see alot of 'experts' seem to be thinking she'll quit because of her form, and many are

Martina's days are over. Power hitters fly past her. I mean, could you ever see her beating the likes of Venus Williams or Maria Sharapova in the state she's in now?!?! I doubt it...

I am a great Martina follower. But yes, I do agree that her results are meager and poor to her own standards. To give her credits: she has a recurring left hip injury and not to mention her break up from Stepanek. To date her game stands to be unique and impossible to be copied. When she return to the tour, she beat Sharapova, Venus, Davenport, Vaidisova, Kuznetsova, Petrova, Dementieva and whole bunch of the big bang player. These ONLY suggest that finesse, consistency and tactics can equally combat the boring power game. True that there is a confidence issue somewhere around; health issue mostly. But my opinion is there is a tactic behind her absence. We should not forget that Hingis plays tennis like a chess master – and this mean she still can gear up and pull out something up her sleeves on of these days. Her glory days are not yet over. Her every move is calculated just like a true champion she is.

guys i think martina knows what she needs to improve and work on.the point is does she really want to do it anymore? that's what makes me sad about her presence on a court these days. she is a smart girl im sure she will make a decision about what she intends to do with her tennis career.
