totally in agreement with everything mentioned in the article! Well done!

I think this article is fabulous and injects a little life in the discussion of women's tennis which has been pretty negative!

Henin is gonna rule again in 2008...No doubt!
by paul on November 16, 2007
It is so interesting how Henin gets away with Cheating Serena openingly at the French Open and her coach agreeing with this by saying that Henin would have told the umpire she raised her hand if it was anyone else but Serena Williams. Faking a "mysterious illness" in order to practice and get better without being scrutinized as Venus and Serena often does...even when they are legitimately hurt. I find it hard to believe that with such advancements in medicine Henin could catch something that no doctor could diagnose, but come back with 20lbs of muscle the same season. Denying Mauresmo the honor of winning her grandslam with dignity by RETIRING in the championship match. Always! Always! Getting pointers from her coach during matches. Being able to have an injury and no one says anything about her withdrawals, but Venus or Serena withdraw, there is something wrong with women's tennis. How soon do people forget all the underhanded things that Henin has done.
Isn't it funny how Sharapova always brings up her shoulder injury after being beaten to a pulp by Venus or Serena, but she shows her "fighting spirit" when playing anyone else. That bumb shoulder almost made her win. It is not her shoulder, it is her confidence. People who do not follow tennis enough to remember past behavior irritate the crap out of me. Sharapova was really arrogant when she won the 06 USopen when asked about her father blatantly coaching her during matches. It is hard not to be nice when you have had a crappy season and beaten horribly in two grandslams. Don't mistake being honorable with being ashamed of making the most money in women's sports and not showing the skill to match the fame. Grow up and understand your tennis history. AMATEUR.

maria showed her great fire spirit by reaching the final she beat hantuchova in her first match, then fought through kuzzy then thrashed ivanovic and chakey. so she worked vey hard. and refering to ur statement about the william sisters is that she had the shoulder injury b4 aus open and she was still recovering in miami. she jus played there so her ranking wont go down lower. and in wimbledon she also was still recovering. so PAUL HUSH!

ok, ok paul. we get it. you're hurting because all your life youve been looking for a hero and you couldnt believe your luck because you actually stumbled upon two of them. how you wished they could reign forever. but now that dream has come to a screeching halt with the arrival of the anti-williams into the world stage. as if it werent enough that somebody stole their limelight on court, now another one has stolen their limelight off of it - and for obviously more aesthetic reasons. dude im rooting for you but pick an idol with class, man. that chick has complete absence of class from head to toe: from how she dresses like a ho, to how she handles defeat, to how she disrespects the sport with her endless laundry list of excuses for last-minute pull-outs, to how graceless she is in deliberately failing to acknowledge her conquerors. trust me, as you get over your monkey-crush the world is so much better off without her, er it.

Ha ha ha! Seriously hmmmn... I've read your other comments and you always have it bang on! Well done buddy! Seriously Paul this article is fantastically written, Melissa knows her stuff, it seems that its only narrow minded people like yourself that cannot open your mind and say that even if you don't agree with all written, you can at least take your hats off to a brilliant piece of writting!...

Happy to be hit with a high compliment by someone whose writing I particularly enjoy. This forum has taught me that we do not really see reality - at best we merely perceive it. Or how else can you explain the tenacity with which the rabid sisterfans defend their wayward idol? Strange world - but so much better with balanced people like you in it. Cheers!

oh here's a thought: post 2003, the henin-williams rivalry (venus, serena, doesn't matter) will degenerate into the sort of no-brainer that the roddick-federer "rivalry" is now. big serve, big forehand, big losses at the quarters of grand slams. inevitably the power riddle always gets solved. after henin squaked past davenport 9-7 in the third in australia she has been davenport's bogey with the scoreline getting progressively easier. though i might add with caution that sometime 2004 i actually thought davenport had already gotten over the williams duck only to be upended by the sisters at melbourne and london. but henin's real bogey appears to be mauresmo. she is to henin as nalbandian is to federer - a constant threat. i never feel at ease watching her play henin.

Paul: You should have a close friend read your posts before you hit the submit button. Your posts appear to be an emotional response to the fact your "sisters" are not ranked #1 and #2, but a pint sized Belgian is. And, I may add, will continue to as the sisters are not physically what they were 5 years ago and their power game is not as unique as it once was.

thanks lefty serve for taking the very words right out of my mouth! that's it - the power game (singular) of the williams sisters was just a NOVELTY act, a freakshow if you will, whose time has come to a timely and befitting end - at the hands of the pint-sized belgian, QUEEN JUSTINE!!!
hmmmm: Just doin' my job. Callin' 'em like see 'em.

Think before you write Paul, take a deep breath and then go fo it. Your PoV is an emotional one and very subjective.
Another thought on the power game. WTA players mostly have male coaches and male hitting partners. There are guys who are either retired pros or not quite up to playing at the ATP level. That said, these girls are VERY used to hitting with people who pack a lot of punch. Billy Jean King was an early version of Justine Henin. She played a more masculine, all-court power game (as much as could be accomplished with wood racquets). Then came in the Chris Everet era and the marathon baseline lob fest. Martina N. brought back a more physical woman’s game and then Martina H. brought in racquet craft and finesse. Then the sisters came in with power never seen in woman’s tennis (and the advent of the new racquet technology). Now in Justine Henin you have an amalgamation of all the above eras. Justine has the all-court “masculine” game of BJK, the baseline consistently and speed of Everet, the muscular “gym rat” physique of Martina N. and the racquet craft mastery of Martina H. and she packs the punch of t
and she packs the punch of the sisters. Like her male counterpart Roger Federer, Justine has the total package. This is not subjective. Take a look at the power index and see that Justine hits harder than Serena: http://www.sonyericssonwtatour.com/2/rankings/powerind ex/default.asp

...Hit it spot on there! Totally in agreement...

i seriously love you guys, you (sorry and louise) you three are probably the smartest people on this website long live Queen Justine!!! (btw, lefty serve do you come from juju's OS?)

thanks omg, i just cant understand how stubborn some people can be at times. they are indeed an insufferable lot. their brains ought to be fumigated. way too much bias weevils infesting. lefty, agree that i see some BJK in henin's game but i think bjk is more mauresmo than henin. henin is like a more patient and more powerful graf (steffi had the advantage of height and wingspan). both showed great heart and a willingness to transcend adversity but henin has had to draw upon her mental reserves more given the present crop of contenders. both are vulnerable to bashers but do just enough to win. lois, and lefty, my invitation for a tri-axis still stands. i shall await your reply eagerly.
