Young guns line up to knock Roger Federer off No.1 spot
The Swiss superstar seems to have been on top of the world forever, but could this be the year he is dethroned by Nadal, Djokovic or even Andy Murray?

Roger Federer has had an outstanding career – so far! What more can he achieve? Will anyone stop him? I think so.
The Swiss ace has headed the ATP weekly ranking tables for the past FOUR years. Each week players try to accumulate enough points to de-throne the gentle giant from Basel – everyone unsuccessful so far. There are now at least a few contenders to analyse as possible future holders of the No.1 crown.
Rafael Nadal is an obvious choice for a future world No.1, possibly even this year some time. The Spaniard has been a revelation in his short career. Already a triple French Open Champion, Nadal shows a great deal of maturity on the court for a 21-year-old. He is able to play on all surfaces, as shown by his runner-up spot at Wimbledon for the past two years. Unfortunately, Federer was too good for him on both occasions. The young Mallorcan has already amassed $14,000,000 in prize money and landed a brilliant 23 titles in his short but successful career.
In the current world rankings Nadal is only 400 points behind his Swiss opponent, the closest he's been since he started playing on the professional tour and it would only need Federer to slip up in one or two big tournaments and Nadal could topple him sooner rather than later. However, with the European clay court season lurking, Nadal will have a lot of ATP points to defend due to his brilliant success in 2007 on the red surface. The nine-times Masters series winner has the willpower and ambition to be a future world No.1 and will not let Federer rest until he has toppled his great rival. Nadal also has an 8-6 winning record against Federer.

Intressting article, but I think this year the only real contender is Djokovic. In five year, sure, murray can be countred in. But for now, his 2-1 record doesnt mean a thing. Dementieva has a 3-0 record against ivanovic, it doesnt really mean much. Nadal has early shown that he isnt of to a good start. His fans and followers can only hope that he is going to recover in time for french open. Djokovic on the other hand, is really on fire despite his loss to roddick. I expect him to be the best on the ATP this year, and possibly knock federer down.

Roger Federer is not the world's best tennis player. The world's best tennis player is without doubt, Novak Djokovic. he has shown extreme talent and potential and can ddeliver the goods. Novak, not only for his film-style good-looks but his superb performance in the Montreal Open 2007, and of course the Australian open 2008, must be world's #1. Nole till death... PS.I believe Federer is on drugs...Has he ever been tested????

Tennis is so much more interesting now that players are no longer afraid of Federer. People don't realize that Federer has dominated only because his opponents were too mentally weak to challenge him, they always gave up before the match started. Federer's tennis abilities aren't that special. In fact he's quite ordinary once someone exposes his weaknesses the way Djokovic and Murray and Nadal do.

Fed has the Edge. Far above Novak (whose tennis is not just ordinary, but almost boring, as is his lousy attitude) and Nadal (a genuine challenger, but needs another 2 years to grow into the role). Fed has the EDGE; the world knows it and Fed is going to win Hamburg and then In Roland Garros...just to prove all you jokers wrong!
