Is 8-year old Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo able to recapture her best form and desire?

This is really a question that puzzles a lot of tennis enthusiasts. A former world number one and two-time Grand Slam champion, she is considered one of the few who has all-court ability. Her talents were never questioned, but she was highly criticised for her mental strength after succumbing to nerves on various occasions.

In consecutive Wimbledon Championship matches, she lost to Serena Williams and Lindsay Davenport after leading the scoreboard comfortably. Before her Australian title in 2006, Mauresmo was touted "the greatest women's player never to win a Grand Slam". It was also the same year when she openly joked: "I don't want anyone to talk about my nerves anymore."

'We could witness a retirement come Wimbledon from the French player'

Where does the 5’ 9” solid baseline player go from here? Is expecting her to win even Tier Events a tall order to ask?

Only Mauresmo can answer these questions. But whatever her answers are, she needs to find her confidence and recapture a true champion's desire to win big matches.

If these seem impossible to attain sooner, we could probably witness a retirement come Wimbledon, from the French player.
