Early this year, the tennis world was rocked with the news that Martina Hingis, who was once the darling of the crowd has been banned from tennis for two years for testing positive to cocaine use.

Though she angrily denied it and still protests her innocence of such allegation, even going to the extent of holding a press conference, this issue not only tarnished her Cinderella-like tennis career but also brought a scandal to the sport itself.

Is this where her story ends? No happy-ever-after ending? For a while that was how her story seemed to be heading, anti-climactic. After winning three Tier events and making her way back to being ranked player in the world, it all seemed to be true. Just for a moment, tennis had a feel-good story to talk about aside from the scandals of match fixing.

But the question is: Where does the story go from here? With the intended participation of the Swiss Miss in the Liverpool International Exhibition round this year, is there a future ahead for Hingis in the tennis world? What are her options?

It may be too early to answer that one. However, what is certain is that athletes will always have a desire to be around the sport that was once their life-blood. Whether it be match commentating, coaching and anything related, they will surely find a way to be closer to the air that they used to breath.

Probably this is how former champions behave in their desire to give something back to the sports that once placed them at the pedestal.
