Andy Roddick's Olympic snub is no real loss
Its true Beijing will be a quieter affair without Andy Roddick - but only because the loud-mouthed American's voice will not be yelling abuse.

The news that Andy Roddick has snubbed this year's Olympics in Beijing is no real loss to the sport. The American has decided to stay in the USA and play a low event in preparation for the US Open, the location of his only Grand Slam success to date.
Roddick has his own ambitions and winning his 'home' tournament again is obviously more important than mixing it with the best in China.
There are plenty of more exciting and less 'attention seeking' players to watch and look out for. The battle for the world No.1 spot between Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic will be far more exciting news than the ill-tempered Yank's decision not to play.
Roddick is no longer ranked in the world's top three and is unlikely to ever reach that position again in his career, unless injury rules out a top player. He is nearly 4,000 points behind Federer in the rankings and his Beijing 'no-show' is no great loss to the tournament.

Wow, sportingo certainly is on a roll with their ignorant bloggers talking trash about Roddick. I'd love to see them have the guts to say these things to Roddick's face. Betcha they don't. ;D Roddick is smart to skip the unhealthy polluted air of Beijing. The athletes who do go will end up losing in the first or second rounds of the us open. Doing well at the Open is far more important than the Olympics. As the wise Marat safin once said "The Olympics does not need tennis and tennis does not need the olympics." Smart tennis players heed those words.

Cheers Jase. Roddick lost in the 3rd round at Athens obviously didnt want to repeat the performance in Beijing. He pollutes the air more with his swearing!
Just because Federer lost in the second round at the 2004 Olympics doesn't mean you have to take your fanboy frustrations out on Roddick, Chris. Cheers!
Jase i weas meerly commenting that Roddick played in Athens so he must think it is important tournament, but like my article said he wants the US Ope more which is fair enough. All im saying is Beijing will not miss him -Simple

If Chris Goldsmith never wrote about tennis again it wouldn't be much of a loss.

--Ahem Chris here's a litting something for you to chew on Federer to said he might not play in Beijing where is the anti-Roger blog?-- Wait for hell to freeze over before the biased Sportingo bloggers attack Federer the way they do Roddick.

Jase - instead of critiscising which i dont mind - how about using your own brain to write more than a couple of lines.

stop fighting! i am a huge andy fan, but im not going to verbally abuse anyone else because of it! they dont say mean things bout federer cuz he nevr does anything for them to say mean things about, he's a nice guy and has a great aditude. As for the olympic thing, andy made his choice and when he did he didnt want everyone to judge him by it! Andy didnt go around saying, "Beijing is going to be crap without me" he made his OWN decision so stop bad mouthing it!
