Martina Navratilova - the true queen of the tennis royal family
She won hundreds of tournaments worldwide in a career spread over 30 years, and dominated the sport through much of that period. She is a true athlete and a legend that will never be forgotten. All hail Queen Martina.

When deciding on the best female tennis player of all time, there was only one contender - Martina Navratilova.
OK, so I liked players such as Monica Seles and Zina Garrison more when they where playing, but from an unbiased viewpoint and success rates on the WTA tour, their is no doubt in my mind Navratilova deserves the title.
There are probably a few contenders from the earlier tennis years, but I was only born in 1980 and only started watching tennis in the mid-eighties, so it wouldn't be fair to comment on these players, having never seen them play.
OK, I only saw Navratilova play in the middle of her career but in my eyes that was still enough to let me see how brilliant she was.

I completely agree with this article! Navratilova's results alone are better than all others in my mind. If you think about other players that are considered some of the best of all time: Steffi Graf, Monica Seles (my favorite), and Chris Ever, Navratilova really played the most out of anyone. To be able to play that well, that much week in and week out is truly remarkable. If the women played like that today they would be injured every second tournament. Not only is she truly an inspiration on the court, but she is off the court as well. She has taken care of the sport of tennis like it is her own child, and the hard work she's put towards things like gay rights has made a major impact. And I love Martina even more since she is a good friend with Monica Seles, and helped her comeback from her stabbing in a great way. She has always been very gracious in victory or defeat, and always looks to help people in whichever way she can. Go Martina! Tennis would not be anywhere near it is today if you weren't part of it!

Yes you have to agree - purely on the amount of tournaments she won, including all those doubles championships....
