With countless great female competitors on WTA tour, it’s difficult to decide on just one favorite. It’s interesting to ponder the notion of who would make a great doubles collaboration.

The Williams sisters have already joined forces so there aren’t many possibilities left. But what might transpire if Serbians Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic were to united as one?

Both girls continue to thrash their way through the women’s tour. Both have been extremely successful as singles players and have claimed their fair share of titles. But even more impressive is their Grand Slam and ranking records.

'Both have been extremely successful as singles players and have claimed their fair share of titles'

The younger Serb, Ivanovic, currently ranks No. 2 in the world, and has already had an impressive start to the year. After a semi-final finish in Sydney, she contested in her second Grand Slam final at the Australian Open. Then she won her first title of the year in Indian Wells, destroying Svetlana Kuznetsova in the final.

Already in her young career she has accumulated six tour victories. Although she hasn’t claimed a Grand Slam title yet, she has already made two final appearances, one at the French Open and the other the Australian Open, and a semi-final appearance at Wimbledon.

She has even proved to be one of the strongest women on the tour, taking down tough opponents like Kuznetsova, Serena Williams and Jelena Jankovic. Not only has she risen to two in the world, but she has the ability to compete on every surface, something extremely vital in today’s game.

Like her compatriot, Jankovic has been ranked as high as two in the world, and only sits behind Ivanovic in the rankings. She has already captured five tour titles, four coming in her breakthrough season in 2005.

She continues to be one of the most consistent players on the WTA tour, and with her consistency she has already made the semi-finals in three of the four Grand Slams. Like Ivanovic, she can slug it out with the very best on any surface, and can defeat the very best in the game, including both Williams sisters, and Kuznetsova.

Both girls have proved they can play against anyone, anywhere, and have what it takes to rank amongst the most elite. There is no telling how far these two can go, and it’s possibly they could top the rankings one day.

Both Venus and Serena proved that they could be extremely successful singles players, and can switch to the doubles circuit and still continue their success.

Although Venus and Serena are in a league of their own, it would be very interesting to see the two Serbs unite as a team.  They could be extremely successful, and could go a long way in doubles. They embrace not only the power, and versatility but the ability to dig deep and prosper even under bizarre circumstances.
