I agree that Martina Navratilova is the greatest female tennis player of all time, but you need to get your facts straight. She won 9 Wimbledon singles titles (not 5) and 20 Wimbledon titles in total (including doubles). She won 6 grand slam singles titles in a row, not 11 (you may mean she featured in 11 consecutive finals?), which shares the record (though not with Graf). She also has the longest winning streak in singles history - 74 matches without loss - and holds three of the top six winning streaks. She holds the most singles and doubles titles in history, as you say. Her last grand slam history was in the mixed doubles at the US Open, just short of her 50th birthday, which makes her easily the oldest grand slam victor in history. Some people put Graf above Navratilova as a singles player, on the strength of Graf winning 22 grand slam singles titles compared with Navratilova's 18. However, Graf's victories came in a less competitive era (she did not have rivals of the stature of Evert, King and Court, who on the basis of grand slam singles titles, 24, would be judged the greatest female player of all time). It's interesting to note that Navratilova and Graf were tied 6 apiece in head-to-head contests and that Navratilova beat Graf more often in Grand Slams, despite being significantly older and past her golden prime ('82-'87) when they met. Navratilova also holds the best win:loss ratio of any player for a year, when she lost just once in 1984. Between 1984 and 1986 she lost only four times in total in singles. Navratilova is undoubtedly the greatest complete tennis player in history (singles/doubles/mixed) and on the records above I would also rate her as the best overall singles player.

Serena and Venus are the greatest players in my mind. the sisters have made such strides in tennis when no one thought they could and it doesn't matter how many times they are plagued with injuries, they always come back strong. Serena won the 2007 Aussie open when she was ranked outside the top 80. now both are in the top ten again and winning tournaments left and right. and how many players do you know, that can be down match point and still come back and win a match? not many can do that, and look how mentally tough they are! they arent even close to being done and continue to accomplish feat after feat. Serena will be number one again, and Venus def. has what it takes to do the same thing.

I agree with you Abe and Latoya that Wms. sisters are greatest tennis players, particularly Lil Sis Serena. She is awesome and she can just drop tennis and come back and win a slam against some of the best players in tennis. If Serena was totally devoted to tennis and tennis only, she would have tons of slams. I foresee winning several more if she stays dedicated and continue to have the desire to win. I think that Venus can win several more as well but the real trophy goes to Serena. Of course there are other great players but in my opinion Serena is the greatest.
