How Steffi Graf ruled the tennis world
She was a superb athlete. She had it all and was Queen of all hearts in the 80s and 90s. Her rivalry with Monica Seles will always be remembered as one of the great sporting spectacles.

Germany has had its fair share of tennis champions of the past, such as Boris Becker and Michael Stich. However one player stands out more than any other as a true champion of the sport - the legend herself, Steffi Graf.
The blonde bombshell was the complete player and her success was second to none. She dominated the WTA tour in the late 80s battling it out with Martina Navratilova for glory, and in the 90s her epic encounters with her main rival, Monica Seles, produced some of the best ladies tennis ever seen. Two great champions giving it there all on court and fighting all the way for Grand Slam glory and the position as world No. 1.
Steffi was a brilliant tennis player. She won her first Grand Slam at only 17 years of age when winning at Roland Garros to land the French Open championships. She went on to win 21 more Grand Slam singles titles throughout her career, which puts her amongst the all-time greats in ladies tennis.
in 1988 she amazingly won all four major titles - a phenomenal feat and even more remarkable because she was still only a teenager. Grafs run in 1988 was even more impressive as the standard of players during this period included non-other than multiple Grand Slam winners Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert.

Graf + Knief = Seles. Graf could never match Seles. Only a hired knief man in Germany could help her beaf Seles. This is crystal clear. Everybody knows it in the bottom of his heart.

Monica Seles is the greatest player in the history of women's tennis. She will not be remembered only for the stabbing incident, but for the way she played tennis and changed the game. Stabbing was the only way to stop her dominance over all other players, including Steffi. Gunter Parche stabbed Monica at age of 19, because she was a much better player than Steffi. THE STABBING IS THE BEST PROOF OF WHO IS THE BEST. Why did he not stab some other player? Because Steffi could not beat only graceful Monica. And by the way, none of the players can compare to Monica when it comes to humanity, kindness and mental strenght (on and off court). She went through hell, but still remained a normal person. And she has the most faithful fans to be proud of, who would never do something what Parche did. Shame on everybody who cannot admit that Monica dominated Steffi, when it was so obvious. The stabbing did not only affect Monica's career, but also Steffi's, because there will always be a knife behind her name.

Monica was better than Steffi before the attack ? That’s quite a debatable issue, when we know Steffi was already dominating their encounter (6 wins to 4) BEFORE the stabbing. Of course, you are going to object me that Monica was still young when Steffi beat her the three first times (in 1989). I shall remind you, however, that Steffi also beat her 3 times out of 4 in 1991 and 1992 (including twice in straight sets) when Monica was number one : two times out of two in 1991 (in San Antonio and Hamburg) and in the 92 Wimbledon final (6/1 6/2 !!!). By the way, she had far less difficulty in beating Monica at the All England Club than Monica had to beat her, by the 92 FO final. You see whether we can say that Monica was beating her “time and time again” and whether she put Steffi “out of the picture” (!!!!), you see whether you can speak of an “outrageous domination” from Seles over Graf then !!! It is mostly your utterances that are so !!! And I wonder whether THIS is not the GENUINE REASON why you dislike Steffi so much, actually !! Besides, if the victory eventually slipped away from her by the 92 FO final, it was mostly due to misfortune, as she definitely proved she had the technical weapons to beat Monica also there. She saved 4 match points, to catch up Monica and even overtake her in the third set. She was just a bit unlucky on a very few points that should have given her the victory. On the other hand, Monica had no chance at all one month later, at Wimbledon. As for the 93 Australian Open final, Steffi Graf had quite an edge at the beginning of the match, leading 6/4 and being in good position at the beginning of the second set, when she was awfully cheated by a (very) bad call, that might well have broken her concentration and ruin her pace. Had she lost without this injustice ? That’s far from being sure…
What you say about Steffi is horrible and totally unfair. Give me straight away your personal adress, so that I can forward it to Steffi Graf lawyers cabinet, in Germany. What a shame, for Monica Seles, to be 'supported' by a psycho like you...
When Monica announced her come back, by the spring of 95 (Steffi had said at the micro, right after her victory at the Lipton : “MONICA, IF YOU ARE HEARING ME, PLEASE COME BACK !!!), Steffi declared she would wholly agree to share her first world place with her, once she would return. And indeed, she accepted the co-number one ranking for more than one year, while she repeatedly proved she was the ONLY TRUE number one, winning six GCs out of six (!!) in 1995 and 1996, and beating Monica 4 times out of 5 (every time in a big occasion) until she retires (her last win over Monica being taken in semi-finals of the 99 FO, that she captured against all odds, while Monica was seed number 3, and herself unseeded…). Of course, you are going to object me that Monica “wasn’t herself anymore” after the stabbing. Maybe (though she had won the 95 Canadian Open, crushing all her opponents without the least difficulty, and doing the same till the final, by the following US Open). But do you think Steffi was herself, by the 90 German and French Open ??? the first dingy scandal around her father had just broken out, and she was totally devastated by it. All the more as she was still a young girl, then (and that is also an answer to those who think Steffi was just a ‘cold-hearted, indifferent tennis playing machine’…). She was far from playing her best tennis, at that time. Actually, she might well never have lost her first world place if this bloody thing hadn’t happened. Should have Monica stopped playing for so much ? And if you suspect me of wanting to relativize Monica’s tragedy, I will just answer you that my own nephew was himself stabbed in the belly, a few years ago, during a rave party (a part of his intestine even popped out his belly…) and he, he hadn’t the press of the entire world to complain him…

As a matter of fact, you badly needed a culprit, to give a free way to your anger, your bitterness, and your thirst for vengeance. And as Günther Parche was actually too much a dead loss to draw attention, you turned your rage against Steffi Graf, because she was famous and loved by so many people around the world (so many more numerous than you anyway). Additionally, you definitely didn’t want to miss such a BEAUTIFUL OPPORTUNITY to gossip (quite cheaply) a player you ALREADY hated, as she was the most dreadful opponent to your icon (actually, you had never forgiven her, for instance, for having prevented your idol from achieving the Grand Slam in 1992, routing her in straight sets by the 92 Wimbledon final). The only problem is that you totally forgot how VILE, LOW and PATHETIC it could be to exploit the words of a lunatic so as to soil the image of a young, innocent woman whose only ‘crime’ was to play tennis in the absence of yours… That’s also why you relentlessly want to describe her as a ‘monster’, interpreting whatever she says, whatever she doesn’t say, whatever she does, whatever she doesn’t do, and even whatever you suppose (in your delirious imagination) she might think, in the worst possible way (no matter how ridiculous it might look, for balanced people).
Steffi can't be compared with Monica, when it comes to humanity and kindness ??? You should say it for instance (and it’s far from being an exhaustive list) to : - The children of a school located in a black ghetto of Houston (where one of her closest friends worked as a teacher) whom Steffi visited in March 95, hitting balls with them, no matter she had to remove her shoes, so as to play on quite a poor tennis court ; - The children of tennis schools in East Germany, whom Steffi regularly invited for a snack, when playing the German Open in Berlin. Every time, she used to spend more than two hours with them, talking friendly with them and smiling to them ; - The responsible of tennis clubs in East Germany, to whom Steffi used to offer her prize money, after her wins at the Leipzig tournament ; - Some beggars on the edge of the road, before whom she didn’t hesitate to stop her car, so as to get off and hand them banknotes of sometimes 100 $ (one of the beggars couldn’t retain his tears when he got it, and neither could Steffi) ; - A 83 years old man, whom Steffi invited to Wimbledon, so as to offer him the possibility to watch her matches from her OWN LOUNGE, and with whom she spent more than one hour, posing for photos with him, giving him autographs, exchanging nice words with him and kissing him at the end of their talk (and she kept visiting him at his home in London every year during the Tournament – until he unfortunately dies) ; - An Australian disabled, suffering from a tumour in the brain, whom Steffi invited every year to the Australian Open, so as to follow André’s matches also from her OWN LOUNGE (and if you hadn’t stopped watching André’s matches on TV since he married Steffi, you might have seen her yourself) ; - Jennifer Capriati, whom Steffi brought quite a useful help to, so as to enable her to come back to the top ; - This unknown Australian player, whom Steffi met in the first round of the 97 Australian Open (while she was still world champion and number one), and whom she assisted, as soon as soon as her unfortunate opponent got injuried at the ankle, until the medical team at last came ; - This woman photographer, rather old and weak, whom Steffi offered her own car and driver to go back home after the day in the stadium, as it was quite late and might have been hazardous for her to take the subway in NY ; - All these orphans and wretched children once again, traumatized by violence, war, deportations and persecutions, for whom Steffi created therapy centers all over the world, especially in Mozambique, South Africa (particularly in the townships of Capetown), Erythrea, Algeria, Egypt, Kosovo, Germany and many other countries). By the way, she didn’t satisfy herself from having them created and financed : she regularly visits them, to make sure the members of the staff do their job properly, and also to spend time with these poor things, talking and smiling to them, playing with them, taking them in her arms, cheering and kissing them. So much so that many of them can’t see her leaving without crying (that was recently the case, for instance, of a little autistic child, who never spoke : he clang to her all the time she was present in the center, and burst into tears when she had to leave). I would also like to tell an overwhelming story of something incredible she did for one of these children, but I was asked not to repeat it, as Steffi certainly didn’t do it for the media. And anyway, I know you wouldn’t care at all. On their own side, these poor hurt children don’t care at all the first world place in tennis (most of them don’t even know the game). They have gone through harder hardships than just seeing their tennis icon being deprived of the number one ranking. And they would have deeper grounds to hate than just seeing someone else playing tennis in the absence of their idol.
When you mean that 'Monica has the most faithful fans to be proud of, who would never do what Parche did', I am afraid it's mostly you who is a bit to proud of himself, man. Please know that Steffi used to receive quite a deal of death threats from those so-called 'faithful fans' - and this even BEFORE the stabbing, man !!!! If you didn't stab Steffi yourself (so as to clear the way of your idol, especially at Wimbledon), it's not because you didn't want to, but simply because you never had the chance !!! I could myself appreciate the 'fair play' spirit of so many 'seleslamists' yelling, by Monica's matches : 'kill her, Monica ! kill her !!'... That's why you should be more on the modest side, when you assert that 'Monica has only grounds to be proud of you all'...

Anyway, we the Grafans can admire our queen using the INDICATIVE time. And we don’t need to hate her opponents to love her. On the other hand, the poor embittered ‘Seleslamists’ will always need the CONDITIONAL time and the word « IF » to praise their idol. And it really seems they feel forced to loathe Steffi (though she is totally innocent of what happened) so as to really love theirs. Pathetic…

Actually, Steffi Graf dominated Seles BEFORE the stabbing, leading her face-to-face 6 to 4 between 1989 and 1993, and mostly 3 to 1 in 1991-92, when Monica was still at her best (while herself hadn’t totally recovered yet from the first dingy scandal around her father). She dominated Monica also AFTER the stabbing (beating her 4 times out of five, between 1995 and 1999 – including the last one at the FO, still on Monica’s best surface !). As a matter of fact, if Seles could win a few GCs and take the 1st world place in the early 90’s, it was mostly because she benefitted from Steffi’s family problems and disarray – problems that could have very well made another player depress, or retire. Once they would have been solved, Steffi would have re-taken her 1st world place anyway, with or without the stabbing. That’s probably the main reason why Seles’ maniacs keep bearing such a ridiculous and petty grudge against Steffi Graf. Apparently, the Hamburg attack gave them quite a disgusting alibi to display out (quite cheaply) their anger and their hatred against the German, seeing the OVER-EXPLOITATION they made of it ! ! And this sad story also gave them a contemptible excuse to dispute Steffi Graf’s status as greatest champion of all times (which is undisputable for any sane, balanced and objective person).
by Angus Mc Clernand on June 07, 2008
As a matter of fact, when I see how shamefully some Seleslamists make Steffi Graf responsible for the attack, thinking she (and her fans) could only be delighted (my God…) at it, it makes me wonder whether they wouldn’t have been thrilled themselves about Steffi being mortally wounded, by an obsessed Monica’s fan (and I know there are quite a deal of…). They might have only seen there a better chance for their icon to win Wimbledon, not caring the slightest jot about the grief of the Graf family, and a lost chance to have a good person grounding a family, and helping so many wretched and traumatized children throughout the world. In their opinion, all this would never have matched a Wimbledon title for their goddess…
