Submit your article and Sportingo will donate $10 to UNICEF and help kids play! NOW EXTENDED TO APRIL

Sportingo are supporting UNICEF in South Africa to raise funds to help kids improve their lives through sport. We all know what a positive impact sport and outdoor play can have on children’s lives. Sport gives children the ability to hope, to dream and to get healthy. In South Africa, many kids, most of whom live on less than $2 a day, don’t have the opportunity to have access to the sports facilities that we take for granted. Sportingo will make one donation of 10 US dollars to the appeal for every writer who submits an article in April 2008. You can also make additional donations by clicking the link at the bottom of this page.

Poverty, HIV/AIDS, violence and inadequate sporting facilities mean that kids in South Africa don’t have a chance to dream through sport.

But you can help UNICEF through its Sports for Development Program in South Africa, which aims to promote sport and improve sporting facilities in South Africa’s most disadvantaged communities.

Sportingo’s support for this wonderful initiative reflects our recognition of the influence the sports community has on the lives of children and their families everywhere, and of the significant resources it can bring to better children’s lives.

The Sports for Development initiative ensures that the children who are most in need of attention directly benefit in the following ways:

*$10 provides a sports kit to one child

*$50 provides a teacher to one group of 50 young people for 1 hour

*$100 provides a set of training materials to one school or community of 250 participants

*$1,000 provides a trained sporting coach to a cluster of schools for one year

*$10,000 refurbishes a sports field to become a multi-functional recreation area for 6,000 young people

*$60,000 builds a new multipurpose playing field that serves an entire community and 6 to 10 schools with about 6,000 to 10,000 learners
